Ammon News - Jordan's major dams now hold 80 million cubic metres (cm) or 23.7 percent of their total storage capacity of 336.4 million cm, as the recent rainfall has channeled some 7 million cm of water until Wednesday morning, according to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

In a statement, the ministry indicated that the quantity of rainfall since the beginning of the wet season amounted to 1.24 billion cm, nearly 15.2 percent, of the Kingdom’s long-term annual precipitation of 8.1 billion, noting that water flow in valleys and torrents takes 24-48 hours before reaching the dams.

The ministry called on the public to take advantage of the rainfall by storing it in all available facilities, and to avoid waste-dumping in valley streams in order to preserve surface and ground water.

The dams of Wala, Mujib, Tannur, Lajun and Karak did not receive any amount of water during the recent rainy depression, it highlighted.
