Ammon News - Jordan has made sure that all of its sectorial plans and strategies are aligned with efforts to adapt to climate change and mitigate its impacts, Minister of Agriculture Khaled Huneifat said on Tuesday.
In a statement, Huneifat said his ministry had endorsed a two-pronged plan to address climate change, noting that the first area of focus is easing off the repercussions arising from this phenomenon. This, he added, entails expanding water harvesting and the rollout of water-efficient techniques.
The second area of focus is adaptation, said the minister, explaining that the ministry of agriculture extends loans to finance the use of renewables in agricultural and industrial domains.
Huneifat spoke about efforts in this regard, including a national afforestation project, the establishment of new dams and the introduction of modern irrigation systems.
Yesterday, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II participated in the Middle East Green Initiative Summit hosted by Saudi Arabia. In remarks at the summit, Crown Prince Al Hussein said climate change is "the most urgent challenge of our time", but it does not receive the level of attention it demands.
