The Kingdom’s tourism revenue increased by JD222.2 million during last September, compared with the same month of 2020, which stood at JD284, 7, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) announced on Sunday.
In September, and for the sixth consecutive month, the number of tourists increased by some 289,000 to reach 311.6 thousand tourists, in light of the improvement in the epidemiological situation and the increase in the number of Covid-19 vaccine recipients in the Kingdom, according to the CBJ data.
To the end of last September, the tourism revenues rose during the third quarter 2021 by 39.35% to to reach JD1,207 billion, compared to a drop of 72.5% during the corresponding period 2020, the CBJ figures revealed.
The uptick was the result of the soaring number of tourists during the first three quarters 2021 by some 397.5 thousand tourists, constituting a 36.6% increase, to reach 484.1k tourists, compared to a decline of 73.5% during the corresponding period last year, the CBJ data showed.
Tourism revenues generated from non-resident Jordanians accounted for 47.4%of the total tourism income, followed by Arab countries (except the Gulf countries) with 25.3% of the total number of tourists, and then Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries with 14%.
On the other hand, tourism spending during last September 2021 increased by JD62.4 million to reach nearly JD72 million, compared with the same month of 2020.
In light of this situation, tourism spending outside the Kingdom increased during the first three quarters 2021 by 98.6% to reach JD437.6 million, compared to a decrease of 73.4% during the corresponding period of 2020.
