Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Monday met with Senate President Faisal Fayez and Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Abdul Muneim Odat.

During separate meetings, the Prime Minister underlined the government's commitment to cooperating with the two chambers to implement royal directives, serve national interests and meet the aspirations of Jordanians in various fields.

Khasawneh also stressed the partnership with the two chambers to ensure the implementation of the propositions of the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System, most importantly approving two draft laws for political parties and elections and other related constitutional amendments.

The Prime Minister briefed the officials on his cabinet reshuffle, pointing out that the reshuffle is of "an economic nature," as a Ministry of Investment will be created instead of the current State Ministry for Investment Affairs, with the aim of unifying investment references and cutting red-tape.

The government, he underscored, will prioritize the economic aspect and implement its economic priorities program, which had been submitted to His Majesty King Abdullah II, with the aim of spurring economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

For his part, Fayez stressed the Senate's commitment to maintaining cooperation with the government to implement royal directives and serve the country and citizens.

He pointed to the importance of overcoming any obstacles facing investors and expediting investment requests processing, calling for unifying investment references under one authority. He also stressed the need to protect investors and enforce the law fairly.

The meeting, Fayez noted, comes within the framework of informing the Senate of the Cabinet reshuffle and the partnership between the executive and legislative authorities as per the Constitution, urging a focus on the economic, political development and administrative reform areas.

During the meeting, Odat said that "we have the right to modernize our political system to expand grassroots participation in decision-making, leading to a well-established programmatic partisan life."

The next stage, Odat indicated, requires the highest levels of cooperation between the authorities, as the Jordanian state enters its second centenary with determination and agreement to strengthen the process of comprehensive reforms and constantly review and re-arrange its national priorities.

He stated that the steps taken modernize laws regulating political life are a gateway for other reforms directed by His Majesty, noting that the Jordanian people are looking forward to these reforms.
