Ammon News - The coastal city of Aqaba this week saw an active tourist movement with about 20,000 Egyptian visitors crossing for the Gulf countries through the city's port, according to an official at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

In a statement on Thursday, Deputy Chairman of ASEZA's Board of Commissioners Sharhabeel Madi said that transit tourism in Aqaba flourished with the crossing of thousands of Egyptians to the neighboring Gulf countries, noting that a number of cruise ships from different countries will be docking in the city's port over the coming period.

"Recently, occupancy rates in Aqaba's 3 and 4 stars hotels hit 100 percent," he said, adding that applying health protocols currently in force in the Gulf countries, which require travelers to be quarantined for a period of 14 days, contributed to increasing the period of stay of Egyptians in Aqaba and revitalizing its tourism movement.
