Ammon News - Lower House Palestine Committee, headed by its Rapporteur, MP Rashid Shouha, met on Wednesday, with a Palestinian delegation from the Palestinian Human Rights and Civil Society Department (HRCSD).
Speaking during the meeting with HRCSD Undersecretary in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Husam Arafat, and HRCSD Director, Manal Al-Turk, Shouha stressed the "deep-rooted" Jordanian-Palestinian relations, pointing to Jordan's support under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the Palestinian people.
Stressing the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem's Al-Quds Al-Sharif, the lawmaker said the King "restored momentum to the Palestinian cause in various international and regional forums."
The MP also referred to the "distinguished" relationship between Jordan and Palestine to support and develop cooperation at the parliamentary, political and human rights levels, and coordinate with Arab and international parliaments to support rights of the Palestinian people.
The lawmaker, moreover, highlighted the Jordanian official and popular stance against policies of Judaizing Jerusalem, and the need to strive to preserve its identity through all regional and international forums, which would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For their part, the Palestinian delegation valued the King's "honorable" stances in favor of the Palestinian cause, stressing the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
The delegation also expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the Lower House Palestine Committee towards the Palestinian cause and support steadfastness of the Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem.
