Ammon News - The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany's Hanns Seidel Foundation to develop an ecosystem of legislation and procedures related to the preservation of environment and marine reserve in Aqaba, the southern port of Jordan, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

The MoU was signed by ASEZA Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Nayef Bakhit, and the foundation's regional representative Christoph Dewart, in the presence of ASEZA's Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Suleiman Al-Najadat.

"The MoU aims to develop and monitor the protection of the marine environment in the Gulf of Aqaba through joint cooperation in developing laws, regulations and legislation related to the protection of the marine environment, and building on the success achieved between both sides during the implementation of the project to develop the ecosystem of legislation related to the protection of the marine environment," Bakhit said at the signing ceremony, according to Petra.

He added that through the MoU, separate agreements will be signed to implement topics related to the development of legislation related to the protection of the marine environment in general and the development of the Aqaba Marine Reserve System, which was announced at the end of last year.

"Specialized training programs for marine reserve cadres will also be implemented in line with the programs set by the 2022-2027 Aqaba Marine Reserve’s administrative plan and the integrated management plan for the coastal area in Aqaba will also be developed," Bakhit noted.
