Chair of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, Samir Rifai, said a gradual path governs the process of Jordan's modernization and development, adding that the party-based programmatic parliament is the end goal.

This came during Rifai's meeting with the Lower House Future Parliamentary Bloc Tuesday evening, as part of consultations with various segments of Jordanian society to enrich the Committee's work.

Speaking during the meeting, he noted the importance of dialogue with MPs, given that the Committee's outcomes will be debated at the Lower House after its completion and submission to His Majesty King Abdullah II and then to the government.

The Committee's outcomes pertaining to the parties and elections laws, recommendations for youth and women, local administration and constitutional amendments, will "establish a democratic life and reform modernization that needs deliberations of several parliaments to achieve," according to Rifai.
Local administration recommendations does not target only the issue of municipalities and decentralization, but will review about related 14 laws and regulations, which the Committee believes need to be revisited, Rifai told the lawmakers.

In this regard, Rifai said the draft Municipalities and Decentralization Law for 2021 will be debated by the Lower House in its extraordinary session that will be held next Sunday.
