King meets key U.S. Senate committees

His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday in Washington, met with a number of key U.S. Senate committees.

His Majesty met, in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, separately with U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations.

The meetings touched on the historical ties that bring together Jordan and the United States and means to build on them to enhance the strategic partnership and open new prospects of cooperation in various spheres.

The meetings also touched on programs implemented by the Kingdom to spur its national economy and create job opportunities.

His Majesty expressed Jordan's appreciation for the ongoing support provided by the U.S. government to Jordan to implement a wide range of development projects in the Kingdom, namely, in light of the Corona pandemic.

On the latest developments in the Middle East region, His Majesty stressed the need to re-launch peace negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution which will lead to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meetings covered means to maintain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and halt the unilateral Israeli measures in East Jerusalem.

Crises in the region were figured high during the meetings, as well as, fighting terrorism within a holistic approach.

For their part, the committees' members voiced their support to the Kingdom, expressing their confidence in His Majesty and his role.

They also priased His Majesty's wisdom in dealing with the crises in the Middle East region, commnding reforms carried out by Jordan.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Director of His Majesty's Office, and the Kingdom's Ambassador in Washington.
