Ammon News - The Senate Committee on Freedoms and Citizens' Rights Saturday lauded Interior Minister Mazen Al-Farayah's decision to release 389 administrative detainees, who were not involved in racketeering, as a gesture to mark Eid Al Adha.

In a statement, the committee stressed the need to constantly revisit the "bases and controls" for using the powers of administrative detention to protect people's rights, achieve security and safety and prevent crime.

"The decision is a step in the right direction to protect human rights and freedoms, which are guaranteed under the Jordanian constitution and international conventions and covenants that Jordan had ratified," he said.

Juma'a said the committee is ready to work hand in hand with the government and the relevant entities to achieve the national and developmental goals and enhance democratic practice in line with the national interest to achieve social security and the citizen's interest to practice 'responsible' freedom.
