Jordan, Iraq discuss electric power linkage project

Jordan's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati, discussed with the official in charge of Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Adel Karim, in Baghdad on Thursday, ways to strengthen the electric power grids of the two countries to serve common interests.


The two officials also went over the mechanism to implement the power connection project between the two countries, the executive stages of establishing the joint electric grid, and identify requirements, specifications and technical parameters of transmission lines and other equipment necessary to complete the power connection process.


In the presence of Zawati and Karim, a mechanism for implementing the Iraqi-Jordanian electric power project was signed by Director General of Jordan's National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Amjad Rawashdeh and General Manager of Iraqi General Company for Electric Power Transmission/Central Region Barak Saad Nur.


This agreement comes within the framework of a contract to supply electric power to Iraq, which NEPCO signed with the Iraqi side on the 23rd of September 2020.
