Minister of Education and Higher Education, Mohammad Abu Qadis, said the process of developing Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate Examination) will begin after the current session ends on July 15.
An ad hoc committee will be formed to study establishment of a national center for assessment entrusted to conduct national-level exams over a 2, or 3 year period for Tawjihi, or its preceding stage, the minister said.
Abu Qadis made the remarks at a meeting of the ministry's Central Planning Committee on Sunday, which discussed a comprehensive development process for the "Tawjihi" exam, in a way that raises its level, makes its procedures "clearer and more transparent," and relieves its related psychological pressure on high school students, parents and society.
Abu Qadis also ruled out the the idea of canceling "Tawjihi" exam as "out of the question, " adding future action will focus on making "an extensive and comprehensive" development study of the exam's various aspects and timing, in a manner that preserves its quality.
The committee, moreover, went over the four-week Compensation of Academic Loss Programme (CALP), which is scheduled to be implemented mid-August by the ministry, and carried out by teachers specialized in the four basic subjects (Arabic, English, Maths and Science), targeting 1-11grades, according to a ministry statement.
