Planning ministry, Qatar Charity sign grant agreement to provide Covid-19 vaccines

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Nasser Shraideh, and CEO of Qatar Charity Youssef bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which the Doha-based organization will provide a grant of 10 million Qatari riyals to Jordan.


The ministry said, in a press statement on Sunday, this memorandum aims to support Jordanian government's efforts to provide Covid-19 vaccines to Jordanian citizens and Syrian refugees and vaccinate the "largest" number of residents on its soil.


Speaking during the signing ceremony, Shraideh praised the "deep-rooted" Jordanian-Qatari relations, expressing Jordan's continued aspiration to strengthen these ties at various levels to serve common interests.


The minister affirmed Jordanian government's appreciation to Qatar Charity and the Qatari civil society organizations for their direct in-kind donations and financial assistance to Jordanians and the Jordanian refugee-hosting communities.


For his part, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, who attended the event, said the agreement is an extension of joint cooperation and consolidates the two countries' wise vision aimed to strengthening the brotherly relationship to face the region's challenges.


Referring to the "close" Qatari and Jordanian relations, Sheikh Saud pointed to Qataris' pride in their "historic and fraternal" ties with Jordanians.


The ambassador praised the efforts made by the Jordanian government by providing free vaccinations to refugees on its land, in addition to many positions Amman has taken to shelter and host refugees.


CEO of Qatar Charity expressed appreciation for the Jordanian government's efforts in facilitating the organization's humanitarian mission in Jordan, noting that its local partnership covers Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, Jordanian Hashemite Fund and King Hussein Cancer Center, a major beneficiary of the Charity's services.


Al-Kuwari said Qatar Charity is a "pioneering" institution in mitigating the pandemic's effects globally through its offices in 30 countries worldwide and contributed to providing assistance to treat their patients and offered support to those crisis-affected segments.


in a separate meeting, Shraideh discussed with Sheikh Saud and Al-Kuwari ways to increase cooperation aspects with Qatar Charity, within the framework of Jordanian government's priorities at this stage.


The minister expressed hope Qatari government will offer more grants to Jordan in the next stage, to enable the Kingdom address its economic challenges, especially within the framework of priorities related to stimulating economic growth.
