House speaker receives Royal Committee to Modernise Political System chair

Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Abdel Moneim Odat, on Monday received Chairperson of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, Samir Rifai.

Odat and Rifai stressed the importance of mobilizing national efforts to translate the royal vision to develop the political system, expand the base of popular participation in decision-making, and achieve comprehensive advancement that meets the interests and aspirations of Jordanians and ensures the future of next generations.

Odat said its important that the launch of the Royal Committee coincides with the Kingdom's centenary.

He called for providing support and backing to the efforts undertaken by the committee as its chairperson and members, especially as it represents the political and social spectrum, age and quality groups, and its recommendations will have an impact on restoring the principle of consensus on the desired reform map.

Odat lauded the committee and its members' communication to be informed of various opinions and directions, stressing the importance of translating His Majesty’s vision in the continuation of the process of modernization and development in order to meet the rapid changes, and to keep abreast with the requirements of the future, "while adhering to our firm principles represented by the Throne Institution, constitutional institutions, and solid national unity."

For his part, Rifai underscored the committee's commitment to the royal message, which came in the context of responding to the national moment, and building a broad consensus on the requirements of the next stage, within specific timetables, noting that what is required today is responsible participation in decision-making.

He said that the committee seeks to gain support and build confidence in its work by being open to the media and the various segments related to the committee's work.

"The committee appreciates and respects the constitutional roles entrusted to our various institutions, and will follow the guidance of the royal directives in dealing with its outputs through constitutional frameworks," Rifai concluded.
