Parliamentary panel, Greek envoy discuss ties

Ammon News - Jordan and Greece have close bilateral relations at various levels, which calls for strengthening them under existing joint agreements, said Mirza Bolad chairman of the Lower House's Foreign Affairs committee.

During a meeting on Monday with Greek Ambassador Eleftheria Galathianaki, Bolad pointed out the importance of enhancing joint cooperation between the two friendly countries in economic, investment, tourism and education fields.

He stressed the role of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and the Kingdom's historical and religious role in protecting the holy sites in the Old City of Jerusalem. He called on the international community to support Jordan to continue its historical, humanitarian and moral role in the region, which is based on coexistence and acceptance of the other.

The envoy said that her country highly appreciates Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in achieving security and stability in the region, describing the decades-long ties as 'distinguished.' She underlined the need to further strengthen the partnership in economic, tourism and other fields.

On the Palestinian cause, the ambassador stressed that Athens's position is compatible with that of the European Union based on the two-state solution and peaceful coexistence.
