Jordan, Egypt talk Gaza truce, rebuilding effort

31-05-2021 10:13 PM

Ammon News -

Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry Monday talked Jordan-Egypt's effort to uphold the truce in Gaza and rebuild the besieged strip.

Building on talks held in Amman less than a week ago to reinvigorate peace talks and uphold the ceasefire in Gaza, Safadi and Shoukry briefed one another on their effort to that end, emphasizing continued cooperation and coordination.

The top diplomats reiterated the importance of an internationally driven effort to rebuild the decimated exclave of Gaza, noting that such effort should be in cooperation with the Palestinian Authority (PA).

A sustainable ceasefire would require an end to the Israeli provocations in the occupied Palestinian territories, they noted, highlighting that such provocations had escalated the situation.

The talks stressed Israel must respect the "legal and historical" status quo in Jerusalem and the rights of Palestinians in Jerusalem to their homes and lands, cautioning that Israeli "unilateral" measures and actions undermine peace.
