Ammon News - Minister of Interior Mazen Farryah on Saturday said security forces will block any assembly or gathering that is in violation of the law, or threatens to undermine civil peace and security following two days of protests by supporters of an Amman lawmaker who was suspended from parliament.
"Recent days have seen acts and gatherings that, in form and substance, undermine the cohesion of the Jordanian national fabric, and include calls for rallies that are against the rule of law, and that undermine the peace and security of the society," the minister said in a statement.
While voicing the state's pride in the various components of the Jordanian people and their service to the nation, Farryah said that the government will not allow such gatherings to "carry out narrow agendas that would harm our national unity and societal cohesion, or undermine national security and intimidate citizens".
MP Osamah Ajarmeh, Amman 5th Constituency, was given a one-year suspension from parliament for remarks he made during a heated Lower House debate last week and were deemed offensive to the legislature.
The suspension of Ajarmeh followed a vote on the House floor, where the majority of lawmakers voted in favor of the move. The decision also entails cutting off the lawmaker's pay and other entitlements during the freeze period.
