Jerusalem Awqaf Department Director Sheikh "Mohammad Azzam" Khatib on Tuesday thanked His Majesty King Abdullah, holder of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian Holy Sites in Jerusalem, for his donation to renew the carpets of the Al-Qibli Mosque and the Holy Dome of the Rock at the Al Aqsa Al-Mubarak, at his own expense.
"The Royal donation was announced during our meeting with His Majesty today, which was attended by representatives of the Awqaf and churches of Jerusalem," Khatib said in a statement.
He added, "We were honored to meet His Majesty King Abdullah II, holder of the Hashemite Custodian over Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem, and made a generous donation to renew the carpets in the Al-Qibli Mosque and the Holy Dome of the Rock in the Al-Aqsa."
During the King’s meeting with representatives of the Jerusalem Awqaf and Churches Councils earlier today, Khatib expressed his appreciation to His Majesty for exempting tenants of Awqaf properties from last year's rent, and for disbursing the end-of-service gratuity after retirement for employees of the Awqaf Department, as well as the Hashemite rewards that were implemented in The Church of the Holy Sepulcher and other Jerusalem institutions.
King Abdullah, at his own expense, furnished carpets in Al-Aqsa Mosque in all its chapels and mosques, in 2011 and 2015.
