FM, UN Peace Process Coordinator discuss stopping Israeli provocations

Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Sunday held talks with the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland.

Talks focused on targeted moves, stopping Israeli provocative measures and attacks by extremist groups on Jerusalemites in the Old City of the occupied Jerusalem and restored calm in the city.

Safadi stressed the need to make every effort to stop these provocations in the Holy City and to ensure the right of Jerusalemites to access the Holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, in order to end tension and restore calm.

Safadi condemned the extremist group's attacks on Jerusalemites in the Old City, which have escalated since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and stressed the importance of international efforts to protect Palestinians and ensure that Israel carries out its responsibilities as the occupying power.

Safadi and Wennesland agreed to continue coordination in efforts aimed at stopping the deterioration of the situation and the threat that this poses to security and stability, and to find the political horizon necessary to return to negotiations as the only way to achieve peace, and to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy decisions and approved references.
