Lower House endorses Audit Bureau Law

22-04-2021 02:29 AM

Ammon News -

In a session held Wednesday, the Lower House, chaired by its Speaker Abdel Moneim Awdat, and attended by the Cabinet members, approved the Audit Bureau Law.

Debating the bill, the MPs declined to grant the head of the Audit Bureau the authority of the judicial police to carry out his duties.

To ensure accountability in hiring staff, the deputies also turned down an amendment to exclude the oversight body from the provisions of the civil service bylaws.

Under the law, the bureau's head is appointed at the rank of minister, with its financial privileges.

The House also returned the draft law amending the Integrity and Anti-corruption Law to its legal committee, upon a parliamentary petition demanding further study with the various stakeholders.
