Civil Defense Department urges caution during hot weather spell

Ammon News - The Civil Defense Department (CDD) warned the public of an onset of a hot air mass in the Kingdom, urging the public to steer clear of direct exposure to sunlight to avoid the risk of heat stroke and heat stress.

In a statement on Sunday, the CDD urged citizens to avoid driving their vehicles if they feel tired, exhausted or sick, to exercise caution when driving long distance, and to remove sterilizers from their vehicles especially during such high temperatures as it contains flammable materials.

The CDD also warned the public not to leave children in the vehicle to run errands and to prevent children from staying outside in the sun for too long, pointing to the need to wear protective head coverings and hats and to rest, especially for people whose work nature exposes them to sunlight for long periods of time.

Citizens are also urged not to overload electrical sockets by operating air conditioners, fans and others on a single electrical current source, in addition to steering clear of areas with thick grass, which are the breeding ground for reptiles such as scorpions and snakes, the statement added.

The CDD said citizens should call the unified emergency phone (911) if the need arises.
