18-04-2021 03:27 AM

Ammon News -

Commissioner for Tourism and Economic Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Sharhabeel Madi, said that reopening of the border crossings in Aqaba will increase tourism movement to the southern port city by about 35 percent.

"The ASEZA hopes to finalize arrangements for reopening the border crossings before the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr, in implementation of the decision of the competent authorities to reopen them within special protocols that ensure the preservation of public health and safety in coordination with relevant stakeholders in the Kingdom and neighboring countries," Madi said Saturday in a statement.

He explained that the ASEZA is working in coordination with the Aqaba Health Directorate and the Aqaba Governorate to vaccinate the city’s residents against the Coronavirus, to later declare it an pandemic-free zone, and will implement a campaign to market the Golden Triangle "Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Petra" to domestic tourism from Aqaba to the rest of the areas.
