APC inaugurates Al-Karama water rig

15-04-2021 10:38 AM

Ammon News - The Arab Potash Company (APC) launched the new water rig, dubbed "Al-Karama," in a site next to the current company's pumping station, during a ceremony attended by its Chairman, Shehada Abu Hedib.

In a press statement issued Wednesday, the company said the Dutch IHC has manufactured and modified the new excavator in "record" time to adapt to the required dredging operations aimed to build a new pumping station to ensure the continued delivery of the brine solution from the Dead Sea.

More than (1.5) million cubic metres of salts and muds from the Dead Sea floor is expected to form the new pumping site, due to the decline in Dead Sea level over the past years, the statement said.

To support the APC's wet operations, the Dutch IHC will assist in the operation and maintenance of the excavator "Al-Karama" and train the company workers to drill with deep dredging technology, where APC has enough experience to operate and maintain its other rigs fleet that use shallow drilling technique, the statement noted.
All the required actual drilling work in the Dead Sea is expected to be completed within nine months, the statement pointed out.
