Talks underway to deliver Covid-19 vaccines to Jordan

Ammon News - The Chinese ambassador to Jordan, Chen Chuandong, said talks and consultations are underway between the Jordanian and Chinese governments to provide the Covid-19 vaccine, whether in the form of aid, or facilitating trade sale.

In a press conference held on Wednesday, the envoy voiced China's readiness to provide the vaccine and help developing countries, noting that China and Jordan enjoy a "deep-rooted" friendship and cooperation in various fields, and maintain joint support to counter the pandemic.

On the pandemic's economic fallout, he said the volume of bilateral trade dropped by 12.27% last year, but China took "effective" measures to stabilize imports from Jordan, adding that the value of imports plunged by only 1.92%.

The diplomat pointed to a phone call made between the two countries' foreign ministers on ways of China’s support to Jordan’s efforts to maintain national security and stability and promote economic and social development.

During the phone conversation, the discussions also went over China’s understanding of Jordan’s concerns on many issues in the region, including the Palestinian cause, and Amman's "distinguished" role in the region’s affairs, he said.

The envoy expressed China's readiness to enhance communication and coordination with Jordan to jointly promote solution of "pressing" regional issues.

The diplomat said Al-Attart power generation project is "currently facing some challenges," but will be solved in cooperation between the two sides.

In response to a question on genocide in Xinjiang, he said these allegations are "incorrect," adding that from 2010 to 2018 the number of Uighurs in the region has increased by 25% and there are 24,000 mosques in the region.
