Ammon News - Generations For Peace, the leading global non-profit peace-building organisation founded by HRH Prince Faisal in 2007, on Tuesday launched a training programme titled “Peace Media” aimed at urging media professionals to focus on peace-building content and discourse.

Organised in cooperation with the US embassy in Amman, the programme is designed to promote the concept of acceptance of others and responsible citizenship, and shunning hate speech and all that would incite violence and extremism, according to a statement from the organisation reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The key themes of the training course, which include the ethics of the media and conflict-sensitive journalism and the ethics of the press image and sports media, are designed to help build a positive media environment that allows for objective and impartial reporting and public education.

“The various forms and tools of the media have an important and pivotal role in shaping awareness, building the cultures of societies, and defining their priorities and future plans,” President of Generations For Peace Muhannad Arabiyat said.

Cultural Affairs Officer at the US embassy McKenzie Louw said: “We see in our partnership with Generations For Peace through this programme a distinctive step toward supporting a meaningful media discourse that is far from stirring up strife and conflict. The media is an effective tool to build the behaviours of individuals and societies. Either the media is positive and meaningful or destructive to individuals and societies.”

The programme’s sessions are held at Generations For Peace headquarters with the participation of more than 50 media professionals, including reporters, presenters, producers and photographers.
