12-11-2009 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMAN - Jordan has officially joined the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) after the approval of 84 member countries.

President of Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein Club for the Deaf and Board member of the Higher Council for Affairs of Persons with Disabilities Hamoudi Odeh Yousef said on Thursday that the membership allows the Kingdom to participate in various sports for the Deaf.

It came after Jordan participated in the meetings of the committee held in Taiwan last September.

"Preparations are underway to participate in the World Cup for the Deaf in South Korea in 2011, the Winter Games Cycling Championship in Slovakia in the same year as well as the Olympic Games to be held in Greece in 2013", he added.

The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) is a fast growing worldwide movement involving the highest ideals of sports competition, social and cultural activities for the deaf.

It stages summer and Winter Deaf Olympics sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and World Deaf Championships for thousands of athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators.
