Korean government grants $1 million to support refugees in Jordan

Ammon News - The Korean government has donated one million dollars to the World Food Program (WFP) help meet the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable refugees in Jordan.

The announcement came during a meeting, on Tuesday, between the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-wan, and the Resident Representative and Country Director for the WFP in Jordan, Alberto Correa Mendes.

The envoy underlined that the Korean government will continue to support the WFP's activities to support refugees in Jordan, noting that its contribution comes is part of a plan to help Jordan respond to the Syrian crisis following the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, Mendes said: "We are grateful for the long-term support of the Republic of Korea at a time when families have increasingly become unable to meet their own needs, and rely more on food aid provided by the program."

In light of the increasing needs following the pandemic, he added, the Korean government's financial assistance will enhance the capacity of the WFP to meet the food needs of refugees in Jordan through innovative ways to provide monthly aid.
