Ammon News - Minister of Water and Irrigation Mutasim Saaidan Tuesday said that the National Aqaba-Amman Water Conveyance Project is in progress and that the government is currently pressing to secure the necessary funding for the major project.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with Japanese ambassador in Amman Shimazaki Kaoru focusing on Japanese-Jordanian cooperation in the water sector.
Saaidan said his ministry has drawn lessons from the coronavirus crisis and is maximizing them, adding that efforts are underway to expand the national water storage capacity to absorb sudden or planned disruptions of supply.
The minister spoke about water projects carried out with Japanese funding, and noted that talks are currently underway with the Japanese side for a $12.6 million funding needed to upgrade the Zai water plant.
The Japanese ambassador stressed the ongoing bilateral cooperation and coordination on water projects, saying it is a reflection of the deep-rooted Jordanian-Japanese relations.
