The Jordan Times turns 34

29-10-2009 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMAN - The Jordan Times celebrated yesterday its 34th anniversary as the first and currently only English-language daily newspaper in Jordan.

The paper’s first issue hit the newsstands on October 27, 1975, issued by the Jordan Press Foundation (JPF), which also produces Al Rai Arabic daily and Hatem children’s magazine.

Described by observers as the “world’s window on Jordan”, the daily’s print edition is a major source of news about Jordan for a majority of the Kingdom’s non-Arabic speaking residents and guests, while its online version attracts around 100,000 unique visitors a day.

Accordingly, the paper places much importance on local and regional news of interest to its readers.

It focuses on material that responds to the spirit of the age, focusing on youth, health, economy and IT, in addition to entire pages dedicated to contributions by key columnists and in-depth analyses of current affairs.

The JPF, a public shareholding company, was established in 1971 and now also features the commercial printing press and Al Rai Studies Centre.

Happy birthday JT!
