Ammon News -

Minister of State for Media Affairs and government official spokesperson, Ali Al Ayed, said that the higher committee to deal with the coronavirus pandemic on Saturday held a meeting, chaired by Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, to review developments related to the pandemic.

Al Ayed indicated that the committee hadn't taken any decision to impose a blanket lockdown, stressing that the public movement and operations of institutions and businesses will remain in accordance with the current arrangements and procedures, which were previously announced.

He pointed out that the committee was briefed by Health Minister, Nazir Obeidat, on the current capacity of hospitals, which was doubled over the past month by adding about 1200 beds and about 200 intensive care beds, in addition to providing about 950 beds, including 180 ICU beds after completing the establishment of 3 field hospitals in Amman, Ma'an and Irbid within a month, noting that hospitals are still able to accommodate cases that need treatment.

Al Ayed said citizens' commitment to wearing masks, physical distancing, and full compliance with defense orders related to organizing public gatherings in businesses and government facilities will enable the health sector to accommodate the expected numbers on the one hand, and will contribute significantly to controlling the spread of the pandemic, which leads to avoiding taking strict decisions, regarding the form and type of any curfew the government may take, on the other hand.

Al Ayed stressed the need to fully adhere to precautionary measures required to protect "ourselves and our families", adding that the regulatory authorities will intensify procedures for controlling violations of individuals and businesses in the public and private sectors, in accordance with defense orders issued in this regard.
