Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - COVID-19 killed 39 people in the Kingdom within the last 24 hours as the death toll inches to 579, and some 2,337 cases were recorded, bringing the caseload to at least 53,087, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said Sunday.
In its daily briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic, the MoH said that 1,733 cases were recorded in Amman, 386 in Irbid, 83 in Aqaba, 32 in Tafilah, 31 in Balqa, 21 in Maan, 21 in Karak, 15 in Ajloun, 12 in Jerash, 2 in Madaba and 1 in Mafraq. No cases were recorded in Zarqa.
A total of 123 patients were admitted to hospitals as the total number of cases in hospitals surpasses 1,180, while the rest of active cases are self isolating.
In its effort to combat the spread of the disease, the epidemiological tracing teams conducted 14,860 COVID-19 tests today, bringing the tally to more than, 1.71 million, the MoH added.
The Ministry highlighted that its is currently in the process of introducing a new system allowing it to include the number of recoveries among COVID-19 patients in home quarantine to the overall number of recoveries.
Amid a rising number of cases, the MoH urged people to abide by health measures, wearing masks and gloves, and to commit to defense orders that prohibit holding gatherings of more than 20 people, highlighting the importance of downloading the "Aman" and "Sihtak" apps.
