Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Public Security Department (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh has formed a joint PSD-Gendarmerie task force to clamp down on wanted fugitives, recidivists, racketeers and those who "intimidate citizens".
Hawatmeh wrote on his Facebook page that he had ordered security agencies to "unhesitatingly use all forms of force" against persons who resist or try to resist arrest. The PSD chief called on the public to come forward, file complaints and provide information against those persons, promising confidentiality of all such reports.
He noted that the PSD had designated a WhatsApp hotline (+962-790-196-196) for citizens to report any forms of "racketeering, thuggery or intimidation of the public". Hawatmeh added that the same hotline is already used to report shooting incidents or illegal gatherings.
"We call upon our fellow citizens to shun this group of outlaws, who departed from customs and morals, and to report any of the aforementioned practices as soon as they happen to be aware of", Hawatmeh wrote.
He added: "We will strike with an iron fist against everyone who threatens the security of the country and the citizens. We were, and will remain, the strongest party in the equation, drawing resolve and directives from His Majesty, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and supported by honorable Jordanians."
He said the PSD will coordinate with the judiciary and governors to ensure those persons receive the "deterrent punishment and protect the society against their evil deeds".
