Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Dr. Abeer Dababneh, a member of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Board of Commissioners, said no change to the forthcoming parliamentary elections was made so far, adding any postponement is decided by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
In this context, she said the IEC has the right to change the elections date, which depends on developments of the Kingdom's epidemiological situation.
Speaking during her visit to the candidacy applications submission center in Al Hosn district of Irbid governorate, she said the commission has taken all measures that ensure integrity of the electoral process in all its stages.
Dababneh noted the IEC has benefited from its previous experiences and evaluated its performance in a way that serves the electoral process in the future.
The IEC has worked to take all necessary measures to preserve the health of citizens and participants in the electoral process, which were reflected in the executive instructions governing the electoral process in a way that fulfills health conditions, according to Dababneh.
In the same context, Faisal Shboul, another IEC Board of Commissioners member, said the IEC began its procedures early this year, as more than 260 violations were tackled until Monday, of which about 50 were related to the use of "black money".
Shboul's remarks came as he toured on Tuesday, the Zarqa governorate to check on measures to submit candidacy applications, adding the IEC has developed a set of "clear and accurate" procedures that reassure the candidate and the voter alike, and enhance confidence among the citizen and the integrity of the electoral process.
He said the IEC has monitored the media and social platforms, and received numerous complaints, of which some were verified, some others were referred to the judiciary, adding some people were arrested on charges related to "black money," but however this success does not mean control over this phonemonon.
The IEC has taken "clear" measures to avoid overcrowding at candidacy applications submission centers, in line with the precautionary measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19infection, Shboul pointed out.
The Commission will not accept any candidacy applications after the expiry of the specified 3-day period, which has started on Tuesday, he said.
If exceptional circumstances arise related to the Covid-19 infections, he said the IEC may resort to changing the elections date.
