Dust storm, heavy rain expected today

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Kingdom, starting from the southern region, will be affected on Thursday by a dust storm in the forefront of a deep depression centered over Egypt, as dusty conditions will prevail with southeasterly brisk winds with strong gusts reaching 50-70 km/h and intermittent rain in random parts of the country.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), clouds will build up at different altitudes at night, bringing heavy downpours with thunder and hail at times that may form floods in the valleys and low-lands, including the southern city of Aqaba. Winds will be southwesterly brisk with strong gusts exceeding 100 km/h in some areas.

The department warned against strong wind gusts, poor visibility due to dust mainly in the desert areas, slippery roads, flood formation in valleys and low- lands, and thunder storms in addition to the rise of Aqaba’s waves overnight.

A tangible in temperatures is expected on Friday, bringing relatively cold and cloudy weather nationwide, with heavy rainfall accompanied with thunder storms and hail in some areas, causing flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, including Aqaba, while winds will be southwesterly brisk with gusts, blowing dusts, the JMD said.

On Saturday, mercury levels will continue to as relatively cold, cloudy and rainy conditions will remain, the JMD forecast, expecting heavy downpours making floods in some areas in the early morning hours, with northwesterly brisk winds, stirring dust at times.

Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman will reach 27 degrees Celsius, 21 degrees in the northern cities and hover around 25 degrees in the southern region, dropping down to 12, 10 and 9 at night, while it will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 31 and lows standing at 17.
