Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, on Thursday received the first report of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) on the situation of the rights of persons with disabilities in the Kingdom for 2018.
In a meeting with President of the HCD, HRH Prince Mired Raad Zeid, the prime minister lauded the HCD's great efforts in following up on persons with disabilities affairs, and its constant desire to overcome obstacles and problems facing them.
Razzaz said the government will take the report's outcomes and recommendations into consideration, and will direct various ministries and institutions to implement the recommendations according to clear timeframes, in coordination with the HCD.
Razzaz underlined that persons with disabilities affairs are top priority to the government, pointing out that the plans for the next stage will see the expansion of the "inclusive education" to ensure enrollment of students with disabilities in schools, overcoming obstacles facing the appointment of persons with disabilities in government institutions, providing appropriate and qualified service facilities, and amending some legislation that serve the affairs of this category.
Prince Mired said issuing the report is a translation and reflection of the HCD role as a monitoring entity entrusted by the law of the rights of persons with disabilities with national monitoring task at the government level.
He called on stakeholders to adopt the report's recommendations, and develop executive and procedural plans for their implementation.
During the meeting, which was attended by HCD Secretary General Muhannad Azzah, Prince Mired highlighted key issues and challenges facing persons with disabilities, in the sectors of education, health, civil service and tourism, and ways to address them.
The 2018 monitoring report on rights of persons with disabilities showed many challenges and gaps at the executive level and in terms of the commitment of relevant stakeholders to the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law No. 20 of 2017, as the report showed many challenges in issues of education, accessibility, and employment and political participation. Also, the report recommended the amendment of some legislation, in order to achieve equality and equal opportunities in these areas.
The Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities stipulates that the report shall be submitted to the Prime Minister, Sentae President and Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, and it shall also be made public.
