Senate's Jordanian-Iraqi brotherhood committee meets with Iraqi envoy

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian-Iraqi brotherhood committee at the Senate, headed by Senator Omar Maani, on Monday met with Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Haider Mansour Al-Athari.

Maani lauded the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Iraq at all levels.

He said Jordan is aware of the magnitude of political, security and economic challenges in Iraq, and that the Kingdom is confident that Baghdad is able to overcome various current difficulties and achieve the desired peace and security.

Maani stressed the importance of stimulating trade exchange between the two countries, which decreased by 10 percent in 2019 compared to 2018, as the Iraqi market is a key Jordanian export market.

He called for intensifying efforts aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between Baghdad and Amman, and taking advantage of the investment opportunities provided by the latter within a stable security environment in many areas.

For his part, the Iraqi ambassador talked about the common history that brings his country with Jordan together, lauding as "distinguished" the Iraqi-Jordanian ties at various levels and fields, expressing appreciation for Jordan's supportive stances led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to Iraq in various stages that his country has gone through.

Ambassador Al-Athari said the Iraqi embassy, by all means, seeks to enhance ties between the two countries in various sectors, including the economic sector, especially in light of the strong political relations between the two neighboring countries.
