Ammon News - Dead Sea- His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday evening attended an iftar banquet hosted by Jordanian Press Association (JPA) at King Al Hussein Convention Center at the Dead Sea.
In a dialogue with JPA Chairman Abdul Wahab Zeigailat and a number of editors-in-chief of newspapers, King Abdullah reiterated that improving the living standard of the citizens and facing difficult economic circumstances are out top priorities.
His Majesty pointed out that there are several national projects that are working on now to improve the economic performance, reflecting positively on the lives of citizens and achieving economic security.
The King, who instructed the government last Thursday to prepare a comprehensive plan to protect citizens from hiking prices, noted that the prices of water and electricity will not be increased in order not to place more economic burden on the citizens.
His Majesty stressed the importance of the role of the media to aim to be more responsible and objective by conveying the truth to citizens and addressing issues that are concern him in professional independence and commitment to the truth.
His Majesty insisted that media people should be aware of the enormity of that responsibility, and should take the initiative to protect it by devising a code of honour that is based on credibility, integrity, objectivity.
King Abdullah also noted to the efforts to launch serious and effective negotiations to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of a two-state solution, stressing that Jordan will continue to make every sincere effort in order to meet the Palestinian rights.
He also said the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil is a precondition to achieve security in the region.
King Abdullah honored the winners of the King Hussein Journalists Award of Excellence.
JPA Chairman, in his opening speech thanked His Majesty King Abdullah for his stance for protecting press freedom and journalists.
King Abdullah and the attendees performed Maghrib prayer in congregation.
