Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atef Tarawneh, on Monday met with Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ali Larijani, on the sidelines of the 140th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that was held in the Qatari capital Doha.
"We in Jordan stand in support of His Majesty King Abdullah II who is the Custodian over the Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem; and we will continue our role in defending the Palestinian cause until the Palestinian brethren restore their legitimate rights according to the resolutions of the international legitimacy," Tarawneh said.
Tarawneh added: "It is our duty as parliamentarians in our Islamic and Arab countries to continue cooperation and dialogue to support our central causes, foremost of which is the Palestinian that ought to be at the forefront of all priorities."
He said that the Arab parliamentary group has proposed an emergency item to secure an order from the IPU that would condemn the Israeli violations, recognize the rights of the Palestinian people, and reject the United States' decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.
Larijani commended efforts exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah II in defending the Palestinian cause, pointing out that Israel exploits rifts between Islamic countries, which negatively impact the Palestinian cause.
