Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Cabinet Monday endorsed a draft civil retirement law for 2018 in fulfillment of Prime Minister Omar Razzaz's commitment he made following the government's formation to reconsider to the bill, particularly ministers' pensions benefit.
" A minister, by any standard of justice, should not receive a life-long pension for serving two or three months in post at a time when public employees work for many years to be entitled to retirement bonus", the premier told a press conference last month.
Under the new draft bill, ministers are eligible for retirement pension if they have worked at ministries, government departments, public institutions or municipalities for 7 years.
A minister whose services less than 7 years may ask to subject his/her services to the provisions of the Social Security Law.
The draft law aims at regulating issues pertaining to the retirement of members of the executive and judiciary powers in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and for the public interest.
The legislation also addresses distortions arising from the frequently occurring amendments to the Civil Retirement Law in a bid to alleviate the financial burden on the state treasury in light of the current economic conditions.
