Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government, Thursday, condemned Guatemala's decision to move its embassy in Israel to the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Guatemala's government to relocate its embassy to occupied Jerusalem is a flagrant violation of the international law and UN resolutions, mainly the recent UN General Assembly resolution that rejected US President recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, added the decision is "an irresponsible step" that would fuel violence in the region and encourage Israel to continue violating the international law, stressing that Jordan, in its capacity as the guardian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, condemns in the strongest terms such a miscalculated move.

" Peace-loving countries should support the two-state solution based on the international legitimacy, which calls on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital," the minister stressed.

Momani reiterated Jordan will remain the strongest support for the Palestinian people, who has always rendered huge sacrifices in defending the right to establish their independent state on their national soil.
