Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan on Tuesday voiced concern about the repercussions of "the unilateral" referendum on the independence of the Iraqi Kurdish region and said Iraq's security and territorial integrity is the cornerstone of regional stability.
State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani urged Iraqis to avoid escalation and resolve the dispute through dialogue and a full commitment to the Iraqi constitution to safeguard the country's unity and national cohesion. Momani, who is also the Government Spokesman, said Jordan hopes that a dialogue begins in Iraq as soon as possible to spare the country from any new crises at a time when it continues to achieve major victories against terrorism.
The minister called for refraining from taking any unilateral steps that threaten Iraq's unity and sovereignty or undermine the achievements of the political process in the country led by Prime Minister Haider Abadi to protect the interests of the nation, overcome challenges and achieve comprehensive national reconciliation.
He emphasized that Jordan will always stand by Iraq in its efforts to bring about security and stability and lay the foundations for a state based on the principle of citizenship and the Iraqi constitution.
