Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki on Tuesday said the decentralization scheme is an advanced reform project designed to expand grassroots participation in identifying priority economic, social and public service projects and following up on their implementation. During a meeting with heads of local governorate councils, members and aides, the prime minister added that the decentralization project will contribute to achieving development nationwide and it's now a new structure of the state's executive, judicial and legislative structures.
Al-Mulki spoke about financial allocations set aside for local councils across the Kingdom, which will be used to finance key and priority projects. The meeting dealt with a range of national issues and concerns, foremost of which is public debt.
He explained that the measures his government took last year were not meant to impose new taxes but constituted a real reform process that started to bear fruit with a gradual reduction of public debt and better economic indicators.
The prime minster assured that any amendments to the income and sales taxes laws will put in consideration the middle class and will seek to collect higher revenues through combatting tax evasion and penalizing those who violate the law.
He indicated that the Kingdom has arrived at a state of self-reliance in the absence of foreign aid, which requires reining in debt and stimulating economic growth.
