PM lays foundation stone for Desert Highway project

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki, on Thursday, attended a ceremony to launch the rehabilitation project of the 220-km Desert Highway at a cost of $224 million.

The project, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, will be implemented within 22 months for the whole road, with work carried out in five to six kilometer sections to avoid disruption.

Al-Mulki, during the ceremony which took place in Umm ar-Rasas area on the Desert Highway, unveiled along with the Saudi Fund for Development vice chairman and managing director, Yousef Ibrahim Al Bassam the commemorative plaque of the project.

The work will start from the Queen Alia airport intersection, 30km south of Amman, towards the Naqab area near Aqaba, a distance of 220km. Al-Mulki commended the strong brotherly ties between the two Kingdoms, where His Majesty King Abdullah II and his brother the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines King Salman bin Abdulaziz are keen to push them toward greater levels of cooperation.
