Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian soldier, who shot three U.S. troops in an airbase south of Jordan, had violated military rules, wasn't acting out of self-defense, and didn't request permission or was ordered to open fire on the U.S. troops, an official source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said on Monday.

The source said First Sgt. Maarek Sami Abu Tayeh violated military rules and orders used at the entrances of military facilities and wasn't under any threat when he opened fire on the U.S. soldiers, although they followed entry procedures, and despite the fact that he already had knowledge about their departure and arrival from and to the Al-Jafer Airbase.

The source added that the court, which tried Abu Tayeh, was formed in accordance with the Jordanian law; a procedure applied in the military judiciary in similar cases, after he was charged by the Public Prosecution with voluntary manslaughter, distorting the dignity and reputation of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and breaking military orders and instructions.

"The court issued its ruling against Abu Tayeh in accordance with Jordanian law and the charges against him, after confronting him with evidence, video that proved he was guilty and his own confession of murdering the U.S soldiers," the source concluded.
