Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Pursuant to the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, and in line with the Director of the General Intelligence Department’s (GID) wish to entrench the concepts of transparency, integrity, justice and professionalism as work ethics, the General Intelligence Department drafted a code of conduct applicable to all its members.
The code outlines constant tenets and principles in line with the ongoing process of comprehensive reforms in Jordan. The code’s application will ensure a superior level of professionalism, in line with applicable legislations, and in full respect of public freedoms and human rights with the ultimate objective being the preservation of the dignity of citizens.
The code’s formulation is a major step as it sets the guidelines for GID’s members. It also ensures that the image of the service, along with the integrity of its members, remains untarnished. This should deepen trust between the service and citizens and ensure full adherence to applicable laws and legislations mandated by the constitution while institutionalizing work ethics.
The code sets out a number of key tenets that govern the service’s activities in a manner that would ensure that public’s best interests remain a priority above all other consideration and that duties are carried out with integrity, transparency, accuracy and neutrality.
It also ensures that public posts would not be used for any tribal or personal gains, requiring everyone to exercise full responsibility in carrying out their duties, and with disregard to all forms of nepotism or discrimination while preserving human rights and all other citizens’ rights as guaranteed by the constitution and relevant Jordanian laws. The code also calls for enhanced cooperation with other state institutions to better serve the greater interest.
The code calls for, inter alia, respecting personal integrity and preserving public funds; it also requires the Director of the service and most senior officers to divulge their financial affaires and private sources of funding (supported by the relevant documentation) on a yearly basis. It demands that everyone refrain from using their position for personal gain and calls upon all to maintain the independence of this national institutions.
It is noteworthy that the code applies to all GID members and will be signed by them accordingly to ensure compliance, absence of which would entail legal repercussions.
