Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The meeting comes within ongoing coordination to breathe life into the peace process and Palestinian cause.

The meeting also touched on the outcomes of His Majesty's recent talks in Washington with US President Donald Trump as well as Abbas's planned visit to the US.

The two leaders underlined the importance of re-launching serious and effective talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis, based on the two-state solution, which is seen as the only solution to put an end to the conflict. Such talks must ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, the two leaders said.

Further, King Abdullah and Abbas discussed the Arab Peace Initiative, which was re-launched during the recent Arab summit in Jordan. The initiative, said King Abdullah, is the most comprehensive framework to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

The meeting underlined the importance of preserving the historical status in Jerusalem, which is a holy city for Arabs and Muslims. The two leaders rejected all Israeli unilateral measures, which pose a threat to the holy city's Arab identity.

The Palestinian president expressed appreciation of the efforts exerted by Jordan to support rights of Palestinian people and their just cause.
