Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister, Hani al-Mulki, Saturday launched a major $930-million wastewater strategy serving Amman and Zarqa and running until 2025. During the launch ceremony, the prime minister said his government is striving to carry out basic service projects without any delay.
There are three tracks related to government's plans, priorities and programs including cutting costs, promoting the economy, achieving growth and improving services for citizens, Al-Mulki pointed.
He indicated that water scarcity and good expertise made Jordan one of the best countries in the world in managing the waster sector. He also commended major achievements in the water sector despite challenges arising from growing demand, higher use and massive numbers of Syrian refugees.
Minister of Water and Irrigation, Hazim al-Nasser, spoke about the ministry's plans and programs in areas of water and wastewater management. He said the ministry continues to build wastewater treatment plants, sewage networks and improve the capacities of existing infrastructure.
He explained that the executive program of the strategy launched today will enable the ministry to cover the new urban areas in Amman and Zarqa with sewage services and protect the environment.
The minister noted that treated water will be used for irrigation and agriculture purposes in the Jordan Valley and south of Amman.
