07-04-2017 04:31 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi on Friday said that Jordan's stance on the Syrian crisis is still the same and calls to find a peaceful solution that is accepted by all Syrian people.

In statements to 60 Minutes program, Safadi said the bloodshed and humanitarian crisis in Syria must stop, adding that the ongoing conflict hinders reaching a solution that maintains the unity of Syria.

"Since the beginning of the crisis, all Jordanian efforts were geared towards finding a peaceful solution. Jordan engaged intensively in in international efforts to reach such a solution," the minister said.

As for the recent U.S. strike on Syria, Safadi said that Jordan saw the strike as a limited response to the chemical attack. The strike, he added, was a clear message that the international community will not tolerate any attack against civilians and innocent people regardless of those behind it.

Commenting on the recent visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Washington, Safadi said that the visit was a success and addressed key issues, at the top of which was the Palestinian issue and efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The minister noted that King Abdullah sees finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli crisis, according to the two-state solution, a prerequisite to regional security and stability. Safadi also praised U.S. President Donald Trump's commitment to working to achieve peace.
