Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II Sunday received a delegation of US Jewish leaders and discussed with them efforts to breathe new life into the Middle East peace process.
The King said during the meeting at Basman Palace that efforts should be stepped up to relaunch serious and effective peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution, as the only path to end the conflict.
King Abdullah said reaching a just and comprehensive peace would bring about security and stability to the region and its people, and warned that failure to make progress on the negotiating track would inflame the feelings of despair and frustration in the region.
He also reiterated the importance of maintaining the status quo in Jerusalem, and cautioned that any attempt to undermine it would have negative repercussions on the entire region.
The meeting also dealt with regional and international efforts to combat terrorism within a holistic strategy as it endangers global peace and security.
It also tackled the burdens that Jordan shoulders as a result of the influx of Syrian refugees and its ramifications on the various service sectors.
During the meeting, attended by the Royal Court chief and the director of the King's office, members of the team stressed Jordan's pivotal role in achieving peace and promoting regional and international security and stability.
