Police to step up control on school buses

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Traffic police said they will launch a campaign targeting school buses to make sure they are "road-ready" and that drivers adhere to laws governing vehicle load and licensing.

In a statement issued today, the traffic department said school buses drivers, who violate laws will be ticketed and will have their licenses withdrawn, urging schools and universities to hire drivers who are licensed to drive such kind of vehicles.

This follows an early morning accident in which an 18-year-old student died and seven of his colleagues were injured when their bus crashed into another vehicle, west of Amman. A statement by the Civil Defense Department said the student-packed bus veered off and collided with a tourist coach on near the west Amman's Wadi Al Seer area.

The tourist bus was carrying no passenger onboard when the crash took place.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and took the injured to the King Hussein Medical Center where they were reported to be in moderate condition.
